America Gone Insane: Their Senseless Hearts Were Darkened
“The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.” – Marcus Aurelius
Has America ever been more insane than it is now? I do not mean “insane,” as in, “Susie, you just made the cheerleading squad? That’s insane!” I mean “insane,” as in Americans are increasingly becoming mentally deranged. Cuckoo. Not all there. Raving mad. Downright bats.
Think I’m overstating things? Walk with me through some of the recent evidence.
INSANITY ON COVID-19: According to a Reuters poll taken in March, 62 percent of Americans “think that unvaccinated people shouldn’t be allowed to travel on airplanes, while 55 percent of Americans think unvaccinated people shouldn’t be able to work out in public gyms, go to a movie theater, or go to a concert.” In a more recent poll, 79% of vaccinated respondents say that the unvaccinated are “responsible” for the COVID-19 surge.
In addition, a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine now asserts that people who’ve already had COVID-19 — those with natural immunity — are seven times more likely than vaccinated people to fight off the virus.
Not only that, but consider the new study from the Mayo Clinic, which found that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was only 42 percent effective against infection in July, while the Moderna vaccine was only 76 percent effective. Even worse, the Daily Beast (hardly a bastion of COVID “truthiness”) just reported that fully vaccinated people are thought to only be about 50 percent protected from the Delta Variant.
And what about vaccine safety? Along those lines, former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson reported that “Moderna has received 300,000 reports of side effects after vaccinations over a three-month period following the launch of its shot, according to an internal report from a company that helps Moderna manage the reports.”
Might any of these inconvenient truths move the needle for these polled-and-terrified drones on their cult-like beliefs that “the vaccine will cure me, and the unvaccinated are causing all the COVID deaths?” Unlikely, because they’re not thinking. They’re feeling. They have COVID feelz, and that is enough for them. If they were actually doing any critical thinking, they’d be objecting to the fact that their own government is helping to enable the manipulation and censorship of valuable information on COVID-19 matters. And they’d be screaming about the number of COVID-19 cases that their government is ushering into America via a Leftist-invited surge of illegal aliens. To cite just one example, the city of Laredo, Texas, has now refused to take in illegal aliens who have been bused in because 40 percent of them tested positive for the coronavirus, (Hey, whatever happened to the Left’s beloved “contact tracing?”)
Add to all this all the flip-flopping and lying the government has done on just about every COVID-19 protocol and pronouncement since March 2020. Then add in the direct ties that COVID-19 guru Dr. Anthony Fauci has to U.S. government-funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, along with Sen. Rand Paul’s assertion that Fauci has lied to Congress about the funding. Then you’ll understand that a sane person would be asking: How insane do you have to be these days to trust this administration on anything? Answer: Thoroughly.
EVEN MORE INSANITY ON COVID-19: President Biden already “has forced millions of federal workers to attest to their vaccination status or face onerous new requirements,” states the Associated Press. Now, that same outlet reports that the administration was considering “mandating vaccines for interstate travel,” an idea it says is “not under consideration at the moment” because the administration believes it “would be too polarizing at this time.”
To recap: Biden, who was all-in on the CDC assuming the unconstitutional power to extend eviction moratoriums, also seems to like the idea of refusing to let you travel from state to state if you forego the COVID-19 vaccine. Forget the naked dictator part of that idea for a moment. The fact is, you may have a doggone good reason for refusing the vaccine (talk to the PhDs about being the most vaccine-hesitant group out there). Maybe you have a medical condition that would make the shot inadvisable or even dangerous. Maybe you have pre-existing natural immunity from having contracted COVID-19 already, or perhaps you have a legitimate fear of serious side effects or death.
What’s the administration going to do, establish interstate checkpoints with (not-defunded) Vaccine Police stopping and frisking Americans for proof of the jab, while letting illegal aliens with COVID-19 continue to surge across our southern borders without incident? Don’t count it out. The Biden Administration is increasingly totalitarian and unconstitutional, headed up by a man who’s been corrupt for years, creepily fondles and sniffs small children and is now embarrassingly feeble and, by all appearances, senile — and the American people are just accepting all of this without any demand for the man’s impeachment. Is this not insane?
INSANITY ON ECONOMICS: A new Fox News poll shows a sharp intake in the number of Democrat voters who have a favorable view of socialism. A full 59 percent of registered Democratic voters think socialism is great, compared with 49 percent who feel favorably toward capitalism. Only 40 percent of Democrats felt favorably about socialism a mere 18 months ago. Congratulations, brainwashed masses. You’ve bought into the lies and chicanery of AOC and Bernie, elitists who live high on the hog while trusting that those of you who are starry-eyed over the prospect of extended unemployment checks have learned exactly nothing from the last 100 years about the lived-out horrors and mass executions wrought by your “new” beloved economic system. There’s nothing like tossing away the greatest country in the world — and your freedom of speech, religion and opportunity along with it — for a pipe dream that has been emitting an acrid stench from the ash heap of history for decades. All of you have lost your minds.
INSANITY ON RACE: I’ll keep this one short. Anyone who asserts or believes the nonsense that America is “systemically racist” — a nation that fought a civil war to end slavery, passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and twice elected a black president — is insane.
INSANITY IN SCHOOLS: Just days ago, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown surreptitiously signed into law a measure that would take away the requirements that students have to master basic reading, writing and math proficiency in order to graduate from high school (also, she doesn’t want to talk about it). So apparently, it’s now racist to give kids an education. On the other side of the country, the radical Loudoun County School Board in Virginia has just voted to give sexually confused students access to school facilities, sports and groups that match their “gender identities.” That means that instead of ensuring that confused, deluded or mentally ill children get the help they need, the board instead adheres to a fictitious view of the world that will infringe upon the privacy rights of other students and create loopholes that can be exploited as a means of preying upon innocent children. Case in point: Remember this incident?
INSANITY ON SEX-BASED REALITY: Are you ready for sexless breastfeeding terminology? The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, which has just issued guidelines in acceptable “breastfeeding” language, now wants people to use the ridiculous terms “chestfeeding,” “human milk feeding” and “parent’s milk” to promote what it calls “gender-inclusive language,” reports The Washington Times. “ABM recognizes that not all people who give birth and lactate identify as female, and that some of these individuals identify as neither female nor male,” according to a group document. Actually, ABM, all “people” who give birth and lactate and breastfeed are WOMEN. They’re born women. And men can’t become women. If you can’t figure that out, then you have no business trying to tell women anything.
Meanwhile, the head of the CDC does her best to keep in Gnostic lockstep with her homies by invoking “pregnant people” in a tweet. And though Rochelle Wolensky bears the title of “doctor” before her name, she apparently hasn’t yet figured out that only women can get pregnant.
INSANITY IN THE CHURCH: Much could be said here, but let’s just stick to the most prominent recent example: the Southern Baptist Convention. Despite his theological and ethical scandals, the corrupt Ed Litton is still president of the denomination, with no resignation pressure in sight. Both Litton and his SBC Elite pals — denominational and seminary leaders alike — are hunkering down with him, hoping Christians eventually will forget that Litton espoused heresy online (and quickly deleted it when exposed, without public explanation) and heavily plagiarized sermon content from immediate past SBC president J.D. Greear. Of course these frauds would pull such a maneuver. It’s all about power for them. But here’s the real insanity of it. Aside from a small group of Christians faithfully refusing to drop the issue on Twitter and the Conservative Baptist Network calling for Litton’s resignation, who else in the SBC even cares that a deceptive and unrepentant plagiarist is leading them? Why aren’t the millions of Christians in the SBC shaking the rafters in godly outrage and demanding that Litton step down (and his corrupt cabal, too)? It is simply insane to talk about a strong commitment to Scripture and then refuse to apply it to the bad trees who are leading your denomination.
Add it all up, and you can see what is going on: insanity, at every turn. Nothing seems to make sense anymore. The most unbelievable claims are accepted at face value, while truth is ignored, at best, and censored, at worst. The insane are behaving insanely, their ranks are growing, and those whom we would hope are still sane are letting the insane carry on in their insanity, with nary a peep and almost no protest.
It’s ludicrous that any of this madness is going on at all, much less that we’re putting up with any of it as a people. And I’m only scratching the surface of the extent that some kind of vast mental illness seems to have taken hold of minds and hearts across our fruited plain.
Maybe we’ve just reached the point in history in which people are fine with insanity, as long as it makes them feel like they belong to a “greater cause of history.” If so, what an insane notion that is. As Eric Hoffer, author of “The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements,” put it: “When people are ripe for a mass movement, they are usually ripe for any effective movement, and not solely for one with a particular doctrine or program. In pre-Hitlerian Germany it was often a toss up whether a restless youth would join the Communists or the Nazis.”
In other words, the urge to “rise up” sometimes isn’t anything more than an insane urge to “rise up.” Yet “rising up” to jump on a Titanic lifeboat is not the same as “rising up” to try to open an exit door on an in-flight airplane. One is survival. The other is suicide. To choose the latter is to choose the path of the insane. Just watch some of those viral airplane videos that have become so common these days: passengers screaming and hitting each other, flight attendants throwing passengers off flights for not masking their 2-year-olds, airline employees duct-taping passengers to their seats. I’m telling you: Americans have gone insane. Where does it all end?
Truth be told, I don’t believe it’s really collective mental illness that ails us. Sure, there is some real mental illness out there. But I believe the real epidemic is the one of sin in men’s hearts, which God has now darkened! Why? Romans 1 lays it all out: Men have suppressed the truth in unrighteousness. They know God exists because of His Creation, but they refuse to honor Him. They exchanged the truth about Him for a lie and worshiped and served the creature, rather than the Creator. God, therefore, has given them over to the vile impurity of the lusts of their hearts and to degrading passions. The result? “They became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened.”
That’s where we are. And you can’t fix men’s darkened hearts with reason, logic or statistics. Better information won’t sway them. Reality doesn’t move them. Appeals to the horrors of history that they are repeating don’t impact them. Usually, you can’t even get such people to understand that their hearts are darkened. They just operate like drones, accepting the mass movement of the moment in a kind of unquestioned trance and dutiful acquiescence. As Mark Twain put it, “It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.”
There’s one way out of this, and you’ll find it in the story of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4. He was the king who asked,”Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty?” For his hubris, God drove him away to dwell with the animals of the field, eating grass like cattle until he recognized “that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind and bestows it on whomever He wishes.”
What happened next? “Immediately the word concerning Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled; and he was driven away from mankind and began eating grass like cattle, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.” Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “(I) raised my eyes toward heaven and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever.”
America’s sanity will return only when we’ve finally despaired of judgment and raise our eyes toward heaven. Our only hope for avoiding a complete national collapse rests in genuine repentance for our sin and true faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. We know this.
But are we praying for it?
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
